Maison-Alandia-AbsintheMaison Alandia is not one of the least expensive brands of Absinthe currently available, yet there is good reason for this.

Believe it or not this drink is still hand crafted in thirty liter batches in oak fire stoked vessels, deep in the Bavarian forest. It’s produced by a small family owned distillery and each batch run takes a full ten hours to complete. Well at least there’s no worries about Kubler buying them out!

Now as far as complexity of flavor goes, this drink is the veritable Rubics cube of palate teasers. It’s secret recipe is composed of a full sixteen herbs and flavoring agents that includes all of the standards including of course wormwood, green anise, pontica, fennel, coriander etc but this recipe also calls for a dash of some others including vanilla.

No kidding!

In fact some people even swear that they can taste chocolate in it even though none is included.

Maison Alandia is an absinthe connoisseurs absinthe that fortunately comes in a hefty 23.65 oz wax sealed bottle so it won’t run out too soon. Even so, at 72% alcohol or 144 proof it is well advised that you do take your sweet time when enjoying this special elixir. Light amber “honey colored, it comes in a larger than average, corked dark green bottle and it louches to a milky “matte” off-white color.

Talk about a premium absinthe, I enjoyed every last drop of this. Although it does taste and smell of pure alcohol straight, but when the french ritual is started it slowly turns from a green essence to a nice milky white louch. I find it hard not to drink this green fairy as I want to save it for a side by side comparison with my next absinthe order, which is hopefully soon. So far I find that a 2 to 1 ratio is best for me.
