If you are looking for the “classic taste” of a conventional absinthe then you’ll definitely want to skip over Gold68.
You see while it does contain what its makers describe as a “maximum” amount of wormwood or thujon, there’s no anise at all used as a flavoring. Hence; no licorice taste, which a lot of people don’t like. Instead, believe it or not the licorice tastes is replaced with an “orange citrus flavor”.
Of course this must send absinthe purists into fits of rage. However; for people who have developed a taste for the newer citrus flavored liquors that have appeared on the market in recent years “vodkas and white rums” and who also don’t particularly care for black licorice “over 50% of the population”, this might be something that they will like. Bear in mind that it’s only the anise that has been excluded, so all the other herb flavors are present.
Gold68, as the name suggests is 68% alcohol which makes it 136 proof. Bear in mind that thats close to double the strength of your average hard liquor, so its pretty strong stuff. Now factor in the 35 milligrams of thujon and you definitely have a drink with a kick to it.
It’s made in Germany, is light green in color, contains no artificial additives, so the citrus is real and it louches to a milky golden white color.
